Mr Tony Dold (1965 - ) joined Rhodes University Botany Department in 1991 and has worked in the herbarium since then. He obtained a National Diploma in Forestry (Saasveld) in 1990 and an MSc in botany (Rhodes) in 2002. Fields of interest include bio-cultural diversity studies, the family Hyacinthaceae, plant photography and botanical history of SA. Dold has (co-)authored 56 scientific papers, 75 popular articles, 21 book chapters and two books and is commemorated in the plant names Orbea doldii and Haworthia cooperi var. doldii. Dold was awarded the Cacadu District Achievers award in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in preservation of customs and traditions by the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture in 2009.
